Introducing: Casper Glorius

Casper Glorius is the Solar Monkey Head of Product. In this blog, we introduce him.

It’s been a while since we introduced one of our Monkeys. So it’s about time for the next one. This blog is about our head of product: Casper Glorius. In his work he is involved in the further development of our product and conducting research into our users. But to give you an idea of who Casper is besides his work, we also asked him a few questions about that. Happy reading!

Would you like to introduce yourself?

My name is Casper, I live in The Hague with my wife and my 6-year-old son. Close to the Solar Monkey headquarters. That’s nice because before I had a job in Amsterdam and I always had to take the train. Now I can combine my work and family much better and that makes me very happy.

Funnily enough, at 42 years old, I’m already one of the “older” employees of Solar Monkey. But I really enjoy working with such a young and ambitious team.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I prefer to go outside: running or hiking through the mountains with a backpack. But I also like to watch my son playing football. The other day I also discovered a new talent. Recently we went go-karting with Solar Monkey and it turned out that I was quite good at it. Maybe I should make that my hobby…

How long have you been working for Solar Monkey?

Already for close to three years. On the one hand it feels quite long but on the other hand also short for some reason. Short because it has been a lot of fun so far and time went very fast because of that. Long because a lot is happening in a company in this scale-up phase. I can’t remember a dull day!

What exactly do you do for Solar Monkey?

I am Head of Product. This means that I am responsible for our roadmap; what improvements are we going to make to our product in the near future? This means that I spend a lot of time researching what our users need with my team. And how we can build that the best way. But it also means I often have to say “no”. Because although our development team is growing, there are always more wishes than we can fulfill.

How did you find out about this position?

For years I worked at creative agencies, but at a certain point I noticed that I got the most satisfaction out of working on one product. This just had to be a product that also makes a positive contribution to the world. In my opinion, the energy transition is one of the greatest challenges of our time. So when I came across this job I was immediately interested. Then when I met the people I was completely sold.

“Every job comes with its own problems. But the problem we are trying to solve is a very interesting problem.”

How do you experience the team within Solar Monkey?

Within the Solar Monkey team I am in my element. There is a very open and horizontal way of communicating. Colleagues are self-motivated and solution-oriented. Sometimes things go wrong, but everyone is willing to help each other to achieve results. And yes, they are also just nice people to have a beer with!

What do you like most about Solar Monkey so far?

Every job comes with its own problems. But the problem we are trying to solve is a very interesting problem. How can we accelerate the energy transition? How can we make installers work even more efficiently? How can we grow our company even faster and thereby make even more impact in Europe?

What would you say to potential new Monkeys if they read this?

If you’re looking for a job, don’t just look at the description. Also pay attention to the “company culture”: do people interact in a way that you find comfortable? Do you feel at home? Are they nice people? Those are the questions that are really important in my opinion.
