‘Growing together with the company, as a professional and as an individual.’

– Mehmedali Karakaya.

It is once again time to introduce you to an indispensable part of our team. This time it is the turn of Mehmedali Karakaya, our Business Analyst. Read here to find out who Mali is.

Would you like to introduce yourself?

I am Mali, officially Mehmedali, Karakaya. I am 26 years old and I was born and raised in Turkey. My parents aren’t originally from Turkey however. They were born and raised in Bulgaria, and then they migrated to Turkey a few years before I was born. I believe that due to my parents migrating and myself learning about multiple cultures from a young age, I created a hunger for interacting with different cultures.

Mehmedali Karakaya is Solar Monkey's Business Analyst. In this blog, we introduce him.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love a good discussion with people, no matter the topic. As long as I can have a productive conversation, I am satisfied. Furthermore, I thoroughly enjoy travelling, especially camping and backpacking. Being in nature and exploring new places are a big part of my interests. When I am not having a good discussion or travelling, I enjoy doing, watching, and talking about many kinds of sports. I also have played the piano for almost two decades now and make compositions when I’m able to really get into the zone.

What is your role within Solar Monkey?

My role is business analytics, meaning that I will be tracking and trying to improve the company’s financial performance as well as generating actionable insights for the different circles we have to facilitate data-driven decision-making. Since we are growing very fast, it is useful to be able to make decisions based on numbers instead of solely on feelings.

How did you end up joining our team?

I’ve had a big passion for sustainability for a long time. Furthermore, I had a great desire to work in the software domain. Solar Monkey offered me a unique combination of both, accelerating the solar transition via a software solution. That’s how I ended up joining the team as an intern. Now that the company is scaling up quickly, there is a big need for analytical support, which is why I am now here as a full-timer.

What are your first impressions of the team?

Our recruitment team has been doing a great job making sure our team consists of all super nice and smart people, both in the office and online. I honestly believe that I will be learning a lot from my colleagues both in a professional and social way while putting my own perspective on the table.

What do you like most about Solar Monkey so far?

The one thing that really stands out for me is the horizontal organisation in the company and how well it is set up. I believe it enables more efficient working and empowers the employees to own the company with its objectives and values and personally, I believe that this has resulted in great success. I experience the organisation as being transparent, credible, and approachable.

How do you envision your adventure at Solar Monkey?

I joined the team at extremely exciting times. We are in the process of international expansion and organic but quick growth. I picture a similar adventure here for myself. I would love to grow together with the company both as a professional and as a person. I feel very lucky that I can make an impact towards a more sustainable future thanks to the guidance, freedom, and ownership I am given at Solar Monkey!
