‘Be yourself, be courageous’
– Sarah Niggemann.
We have already introduced several team members, today it is Sarah Niggemann’s turn. Sarah is one of our customer success managers. Not only is she very good with people, she is also very good with languages. Read here to find out how we know Sarah.
Would you like to introduce yourself?
I’m Sarah Niggemann and I’m 31 years old. I am half German, half Dutch and I grew up in Germany. I mainly studied linguistics in Mannheim, Germany: English, French and Creole languages. Creole languages are languages that originated from a contact of speakers of different languages and passed on as mother tongues. This often happened in colonial times. Examples include Papiamento in Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire, or Sranan Tongo in Suriname. I also speak 5 languages: German, Dutch, English, French and Papiamentu.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am creative and I like to spend time being creative. For example, I sing opera and love creative writing and of course languages. And I love water! I like to be in, on and near the water: diving, snorkelling, swimming, sunsets on the beach or from the boat :). I also enjoy travelling and hanging out with family and friends. In addition, I am committed to social causes, such as diversity and inclusion.
What exactly do you do for Solar Monkey?
I work as a Customer Success Manager for our Gold and Silver customers. I am the first point of contact for these clients when they have questions or want to discuss their strategy. I mainly help them achieve their business goals with the help of our software. I do this for the German and Benelux markets.
How did you join our team?
I was approached by Robien, our internal recruiter, via LinkedIn. I have always wanted to do work that has a social or sustainable impact on our society, that is very important to me. I also liked that it was possible to work both from the office and from home. This function directly connected to that.
What are your first impressions of the team?
I immediately noticed that everyone is very helpful. Because we do not perceive ourselves as different departments but as ‘circles’, you learn a lot from each other, even outside of your own position. I also feel that Solar Monkey understands that if their employees are doing well, the company is also doing well. That creates a very nice working atmosphere.
What do you like most about Solar Monkey?
Personally, it’s that there is room to give feedback company-wide instead of just to your direct colleagues. As a result, you yourself contribute to creating a great company culture. I am also thinking, for example, of diversity and inclusion. I feel that executives are really open to this. So looking forward to DE & I (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, Belonging) initiatives to stimulate this even more.
How do you envision your adventure at Solar Monkey?
I’ve always been a fan of development. I think I have good colleagues and people next to me who are really interested in my professional and personal development. That’s very important to me because I don’t like standing still. As mentioned, in addition to my job as a customer success manager, I would also like to contribute to an even more inclusive and diverse working environment. Because both representation and working on unconscious biases are very important to me. It must be embedded in a company’s system.
What would you say to potential new Monkeys if they read this?
I would say: “Be yourself! You should always stay true to yourself, then you will get where you need to be. Be courageous! Have the courage to try something new and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We are not all perfect and often beautiful things happen, if you dare to try.”
If you had asked me 3 years ago, I would never have thought that I would ever end up in the solar industry. So sometimes you just have to jump and go for something!
